The Participatory and Artistic Dimension at the Heart of Mons en Lumières 2025
For its second edition, Mons en Lumières continues to shine with its ambition to actively involve local talent. The festival highlights unique participatory projects created in collaboration with shopkeepers and students from the Mons Music Academy, while celebrating the craftsmanship of the young generation from ARTS², Mons’ Higher School of Arts.
Participatory Installations at the Heart of Mons
This year, the involvement of shopkeepers from Rue des Fripiers brings L’Écho du Silence to life, an immersive installation transforming the street into a suspended sky, projecting surreal visions of the night. Testimonies from shopkeepers, integrated into a soundscape, provide a multisensory experience connecting past and present.
Students from the Music Academy have also contributed to Des Racines², a participatory artwork where luminous inflatable sculptures, accompanied by vocal creations, emerge from the academy’s windows. This project highlights the connection between artistic expression and community.
ARTS²: A Showcase of Creativity
The festival also celebrates the boldness and innovation of ARTS² students. Under the guidance of their professors, these emerging talents have designed captivating installations:
- Time Rift Odyssey (Place Louise): an immersive exploration of space-time rifts, where each projection reveals a fascinating alternative reality.
- Virtual Ecosystem (Rue des Telliers): a digital cabinet of curiosities envisioning a hybrid nature through AI committed to biodiversity.
These projects showcase the creative richness and craftsmanship of the students, transforming the city center into a laboratory of artistic experimentation.
A Celebration of Local Creativity
By bringing together students, shopkeepers, and young artists, Mons en Lumières asserts itself as an inclusive and innovative cultural event, uniting local talents around an unforgettable luminous journey.
