“Mycelium” is an interactive light installation that transforms the historic garden of Maison Losseau into an immersive artwork, linking art and nature under the theme “Between Earth and Sky”. Inspired by artists like Bruce Munro and Janet Echelman, the installation uses fiber optics to evoke the mycelial network, an underground system essential for plant communication. This luminous network winds through the garden’s flowerbeds and trees, creating a visual experience reminiscent of the delicate patterns of Art Nouveau.

At nightfall, the garden becomes a living tableau of lights and colors, inviting visitors to explore the glowing halos emerging from the ground and trees. Interactive sensors allow visitors to influence the light animations, adjusting their intensity and color, emphasizing the importance of harmony between humanity and its environment. This interactivity symbolizes each individual’s ability to impact and be impacted by their surroundings.

Technically, the installation is designed to be energy-efficient, utilizing low-power LED light sources and lasers. The light elements are discreetly installed in the ground or on the trees using nylon threads, and a multi-point sound system creates a subtle but immersive auditory environment, encouraging attentive listening and quiet exploration.

The work highlights the botanical and architectural heritage of Maison Losseau, creating a fascinating dialogue between past and present. The luminous patterns of the fibers echo the natural and organic curves of Art Nouveau, extending the site’s historical aesthetic and inviting a rediscovery of the invisible yet vital connections that unite all forms of life.
