The city of Mons is organizing the first light festival in Wallonia.

27 Installations and Light Projections in the City Center

Over 8 evenings, from January 25th to 28th and from February 1st to 4th, between 6:30 pm and midnight, the city center of Mons will be gloriously illuminated with art and light, thanks to a fascinating route designed to host 27 carefully crafted installations and light projections. These will seamlessly blend into the urban setting and the architecture of the historic center.

Accessible to all and completely free, the course highlights local, national, and international talent.

Program

Between Poetry and Surrealism

Invited artist: Robert Montgomery (UK)

For the 100th anniversary of surrealism, the 3 km route’s running theme will be surrealism and poetry. As part of the activities, the festival plans to invite a guest star: Scottish artist, Robert Montgomery. He creates poems on billboards, light installations, fire poems, etchings on wood, paintings and watercolors. His pieces for Mons By Light will echo not only the words of Belgian surrealist poets, but also the city’s characteristic typography and architecture.

“I want my pieces to blend with the architecture of this very special place like a phantom voice; the phantom voice of poetry.”
