“L’Écho du Silence” is an immersive installation created by the Comptoir des Ressources Créatives of the Mons area and the shopkeepers of Rue des Fripiers. Suspended between the facades of the street, the artwork invites visitors to dive into a surreal and digital sky.

The project is structured around two key phases:

  1. Collecting shopkeepers’ testimonies: Before the event, interviews are conducted with the shopkeepers of Rue des Fripiers. Their memories and anecdotes are collected and incorporated into an immersive audio track.
  2. Creating visuals and sounds: The projections are created by digital art students from Carré des Arts (students involved in this project are Eugène Kamegneson Fotso, Adriano Spadafora, and Lucas Izzi). These visuals are accompanied by a dynamic soundtrack (produced by Alexandre Casteleyn), featuring testimonies from the shopkeepers reworked by a Mons-based artist, Charles Christiaens (local artist and member of the group Morning Mood).

The installation consists of two major elements:

  1. Projection on a suspended canvas: Digitally reimagined skies, ranging from thunderstorms to the Milky Way, are projected.
  2. Immersive soundtrack: Recordings of the shopkeepers’ testimonies are sound-designed and integrated into the soundtrack.

This installation immerses visitors in a poetic and dreamlike world, inviting them to rediscover Rue des Fripiers in a completely new light.
