UMONS, MUMONS, and Mons en Lumières: A Radiant Collaboration
Mons en Lumières partners with the University of Mons (UMONS) and its museum, the MUMONS, for a groundbreaking collaboration blending art, science, and nature, strengthening the ties between intellectual heritage and cultural vitality.
A Monumental Artwork at Place du Parc
The Mons en Lumières 2025 route includes Place du Parc, home to iconic UMONS buildings. In this setting, international artist Tadashi Kawamata will suspend wooden huts made from recycled materials in the trees, a major artwork exploring the theme “Between Earth and Sky.”
To enhance this installation, MUMONS collaborated with Mike Latona, a Belgian artist specializing in immersive projections. Together, they will transform Place du Parc into a unique visual and sensory experience.
Science and Poetry in Dialogue
MUMONS teams enriched the project with reflections on the connections between the infinitely small and the infinitely large, inspired by modern scientific discoveries. These ideas informed the creation of Mike Latona, who combines technology and poetry to invite visitors to rethink their relationship with nature and the universe.
A Tribute to Light and Knowledge
The trees at Place du Parc, reaching toward the sky, evoke the Tree of Knowledge from the university library. This powerful symbol celebrates the mission of UMONS and MUMONS: to enlighten the world through knowledge and light.
A Unifying Project
This collaboration transcends the boundaries between art, nature, and technology, offering an immersive and poetic experience. Visit Place du Parc to rediscover the interconnectedness of living beings and the universe.
