On the way to becoming the biggest winter public festival in Wallonia: the city of Mons is launching the very first festival of lights. The full program will be revealed at a press conference in Brussels on 08 December 2023.

Winter in Mons is going to be hot! In early 2024, the Wallonia capital of culture will create the biggest winter event in the South of the country: ‘Mons By Light,’ the very first light festival in Wallonia. Never seen before!

For 8 evenings from 25 to 28 January and from 1 to 4 February, the historic and medieval center will be embellished with art and light by means of a 3 km route scattered with 25 installations. For this first edition and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of surrealism, the route’s running theme will be surrealism and poetry. As part of the activities, a special guest: Scottish artist, Robert Montgomery. Guaranteed to be amazing and memorable!

‘Mons en Lumières’ hopes to be a nationwide event, equipped with very substantial means to provide a unique experience for visitors.

A fascinating itinerary has been created to include 25 installations and light projections carefully developed in harmony with the urban setting and architecture of the historic center.

Accessible to all and completely free of charge, the route will highlight local, national and international talent. The light installations and enchanting projections are designed in collaboration with the artists, local and regional businesses, Mons residents and the general public.

This program is part of the 2021-2027 European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) scheduling.
